There are approximately 500 species of philodendron most of them are epiphytic evergreens. They are often cultivated for their glossy leaves, which comes in many different shapes depending on the variety. Philadendron leaves can be linear, ovate, oblong, heart, arrow, or spear shaped. Their flowers consist of a spadice covered in tiny petalless flowers arranged around an axis surrounded by a spathe.
Epiphytes are plants that grows on other plants or objects for physical support, they often don’t have any attachment to the ground or other obvious nutrient source so collect nutrients from debris in the air.
