This perennial belongs to the Arecaceae family. Its rich green, pinnate leaves love humidity when grown indoors
Areca Palm plants are native to the forests of Eastern Madagascar and produce insignificant small yellow flowers. However, its conservation status is “near threatened” in its natural habitat. While considered an endangered species, it has been long naturalized in countries like Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, US states like Florida and Hawaii, and more.
Indoor areca palms do well with bright light from a south or south west window. Outside they like bright sunlight and can tolerate full sun.
To maintain healthy leaves high humidity is essential and if the air is too dry often leaf tips will turn brown. These plants do well in average temperatures of 18-23 degrees centigrade. Keep the leaves away from draughts and cold windows.
Areca palms like moist soil but cannot tolerate overwatering or waterlogged soil. The best way to water is to allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Also they are sensitive to fluoride in water so its better to use collected rainwater.
