An evergreen perennial with glossy, long dark green leaves that are elliptic to lance shaped, with a pointy base and tip, and wider winged centre. It may produce bell shaped flowers in cream with a maroon centre in the summer, but as the flowers grow along the rhizomes level, they are mostly hidden by foliage and therefore not always easy to spot.
