Calathea Makoyana is a clump forming leafy evergreen with rigid, straight, ovate leaf blades. In the wild it produce ovoid spikes of up to 6cm long with white and purple flowers, however these are rarely produced in cultivation.
The purple undersides of the leaves have this colouring as it help them to absorb the maximum amount of light in the shady forests they come from.
Calatheas like around 8-10 hours of bright indirect light as well as 8 hours of darkness
Calatheas enjoy humidity so mist this houseplant regularly
Water once a week letting the top 2cm of soil dry out between watering
