This is a leafy evergreen perennial grown in a clump forming manner with erect lance shaped leaves with wavy margins on the leaf blades. It is rhizomatous, meaning that it has a creeping root stalk that grows horizontally underground or across the soil surface. The new growth emerge from the root stalk as it reemerges at the surface.
Calathea Lancifolia is said to symbolise a new beginning as each day their leaves curl up in the evening and then uncurl in the morning.
