How to choose plants to suit your zodiac star sign. Which one are you?

Have you ever considered how to pick the right house plant or garden plant for your astrological symbol? A zodiac star sign can easily be linked to a plant and your choice might be more important than you think!   You can choose a plant to fit your personality and bring harmony into your life. Here are some suggestions from Perfect Plants:

Leo: July 23 - August 22.

You are intelligent, courageous, theatrical and warm. You like to put on a show. Your perfect plant will be something dramatic. Maybe a sunflower with larger-than life flowers or a bird of paradise house plant which produces the most amazing orange flowers when mature.

 Virgo: August 23 - September 22.

The zodiac sign of Virgo suggests you might be kind, helpful, smart and practical. You like to feel secure and you love to follow rules. Out in the garden this could easily be represented by structure. Maybe an evergreen shrub or tree such as pine or yew. Indoors, a Sansevieria (mother-in law's tongue) or Aspidistra would suit perfectly. These are highly reliable, the shape is architecturally stable and they are aesthetically pleasing too.

Libra: September 23 - October 22.

An intelligent zodiac sign, you will put others before yourself. You value harmony and compromise and like groups of friends. Plants that appear in drifts would be highly appealing, such as ornamental grasses with blousy seedheads such as Stipa tenuissima ‘Pony Tails’. Indoors, you might love succulents such as Echeveria, displayed in groups. ‍The Echeveria 'Purple Pearl' pictured below has the most wonderful foliage with a 'bloom'. A Libra would love it!

Scorpio: October 23 - November 21.

You are a passionate person who is probably unafraid to do your own thing. A trail blazer who isn't afraid of controversy. Sometimes you can be a bit prickly, but underneath you are soft, loving and loyal. In the garden, an ornamental thistle would be an appropriate plant for a Scorpio. Echinops and Cynara would be ideal. Indoors, a stately cactus plant with style and stature, would definitely fit the bill. They are a bit prickly, but stately and impressive, with a soft interior.

Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21.

A Saggittarius zodiac sign means that you are probably independent and will forge your own pathway. Unafraid to branch out, you will set your own pace. You have a strong mind and will and make a good leader as you're adventurous and truthful. Your ideal plant for the garden is a low-maintenance climber such as honeysuckle which knows where it wants to go. Indoors, you are ideally represented by a palm such as Howea indoor palm tree with spreading fronds and great presence. This popular plant is also known as the Kentia palm. Like a Saggittarius, it is bold and unafraid to branch outwards when it grows up.

Capricorn: December 22 - January 19.

You are practical and dependable, wise and independent, with a low-maintenance disposition. You like things to be orderly and manageable and have one foot firmly planted in tradition. In the garden you might love box balls and evergreen topiary. Indoors, some flowing ferns would please you, cascading from shelves and linking one level to another. ‍Indoors, a Capricorn could try a fern such as Asplenium. These have fairly stiff, structured foliage with a pleasing sheen.

Aquarius: January 20 - February 18.

You have a forgiving nature and you care about others, displaying tremendous humanitarian qualities. Your mind is bright and intellectual and you make a great mediator and problem-solver. Your ideal garden plant is a Clematis climber that clothes structures in beauty and covers up the joins. Indoors, the beauty of a fiddle leaf fig would be pleasing, with its luxurious leaves and prominent veining that seems to join everything together.

Pisces; February 19 to March 20.

A natural born healer, you are selfless, comforting and empathetic. You are supportive and helpful.  In the garden, the water lily is your obvious plant as it gently covers the surface and protects what lies beneath. Indoors, an Aloe vera will represent the perfect plant for you. This medicinal plant will appeal to a healing nature. You will probably snip off the foliage and use the healing sap to soothe cuts and maybe become even more adventurous with its possibilities.

Aries: March 21 - April 19.

As an Aries, you are bold, adventurous and probably ambitious too. You like things to be obvious and you are normally in a hurry to achieve them. You love to see colourful annuals out in the garden as they give instant colour and appeal. Bizzy Lizzies (Impatiens) are ideal as they provide a low-maintenance, high impact result. Indoors, a cheese plant (Monstera) with its extravagant foliage would be just about perfect.

Taurus: April 20 - May 20.

You are relaxed, honest, smart and trustworthy. You make a great friend, colleague and partner. In the garden, it's the strappy-leafed Crocosmia that is right for you. Its leaves are structural and the bright flowers are so relaxed and reliable. Indoors, you can't go wrong with a money plant (Crassula), which is so easy to look after and dependable, just like you.

Gemini: The sign of twins.

You are dynamic and a good communicator and a bit of a chameleon. You can blend into different groups because you are emotionally intelligent. Your garden plant is well represented by Salvia, which is oh-so-versatile. It comes in many forms, from a vivid, showy annual through to a tasty garden herb. Indoors you would be well suited to something that hardly looks real  like an air plant (Tillandsia, for example). A plant with a twin personality: living art.

Cancer: June 21 - July 22.

You have an introspective nature and can appear to be a bit shy and just a little stand-offish to others. A Cancer zodiac means that you make a friend for life, once common ground has been discovered. Your ideal garden plant is a lilac tree that is always there but only really noticed when it's flowering. Indoors, your ideal plant will be a shy Hoya that gently trails and produces tiny, wax-like scented flowers in summer. This plant is tougher than it looks, being both beautiful and rather shy.
