Tradescantia zebrina is a colourful trailing plant that looks effective when trailing from a windowsill or even an indoor hanging basket. Known as the wandering Jew or the inch plant (because it grows quickly), it has striking foliage and is very easy to maintain.

Tradescantia is also known as the spider lily. The foliage is stripy, with a strong green stripe and margin against cream. Underneath, the leaves are purple, creating great contrast. The leaves feel velvety to the touch.

  • Native to the South American forests, this scrambling plant naturally grows in wooded areas.
  • Tradescantia zebrina is also known by its old name Tradescantia pendula.
  • In a home, place the plant near a window, but avoid south-facing sites.
  • Water regularly but do not allow the plant to sit in water.
  • These plants can eventually trail to well over 1m.
  • They grow quickly and are easy to propagate.
  • Sold in a 10cm pot
