It's not only Mary Poppins fans that love cherry trees! The blousy blossom of spring marks the beginning of the growing season and there's perhaps no better sight than seeing a cherry or crab apple treee adorned with spring flowers. Indeed, it's a major festival in Japan, where tourists and locals alike flock to picnic under the amazing pink blossom towards the end of March. Cherry blossom appears on many different varieties of Prunus trees and these look particularly beautiful in front gardens. Malus, or crab apples, have almost equally desirable blossom and they have fruit later in the year too.
