This Swiss cheese plant stands about 60cm tall. The plant is actually a type of vine of the genus Monstera. It originates from Central America.It is actually, therefore, a climbing plant which produces long brown aerial roots which it uses to hold onto trees. It is these that it uses to climb against.

  • The stem of this house plant is comparatively weak as it uses the supporting tree as its strength.
  • When it is young, Monstera does not have cut, divided leaves. These develop as the plant matures.
  • This house plant requires moderate levels of light. Keep out of direct sunlight.
  • It is also known as Mexican Breadfuirt and Window Leaf.
  • It likes a humid atmosphere and although it can cope with dry air, the leaves will be larger and more impressive if humidity is high.
  • Avoid draughts.
  • Feed about twice per month during the growing season. Water about once per week but do not allow this plant to stand in water as this can lead to root rot.
  • Sold singly in a 17cm pot. The height of the plant, including pot is approx 60cm, but these are growing plants and the heights obviously will vary.
