Groundcover and dwarf shrubs give valuable soil cover for a garden, making them highly valued because they suppress weeds. What's more, shrubs are relatively easy to maintain. They form a backbone for the garden that stays roughly the same, varying little from season to season apart from the production of leaves and flowers. Unlike perennials, shrubs don't die down in the winter but can be pruned in order to keep them neat and healthy.
