This banana plant, Musa 'Dwarf Cavendish red' is an evergreen perennial plant which could eventually grow to over 2m tall. Here in the UK it can be grown as a house or conservatory plant, although it can also be planted outside during the warmer months of the year. It is not a modern idea to grow bananas, in fact the Victorians often had them in conservatories and orangeries.

  • The plant has long, luscious leaves which can grow to up to 1.2m long.
  • Kept in ideal conditions the plant will produce drooping spikes of yellow flowers with purple bracts.
  • These are followed by edible yellow fruit.
  • Ensure to keep the banana in a large pot and water it well.
  • Feed the banana regularly throughout the growing season.
  • Water infrequently during winter to prevent rot.
  • Mist the foliage using a spray. This plant enjoys high humidity.
  • The plant will grow fast when the temperature is warm. In fact it can produce a new leaf every week.
  • Tropical appearance.
  • Can tolerate being kept indoors all year.
  • These plants are approx 70-90cm tall and are in a 21-24cm pot
