A great, reliable house plant that is very easy to care for. It has large, glossy leaves which gradually 'split' as the plant matures. Young Swiss Cheese plants have un-split foliage. These plants help filter the air within a home or office. They take out toxins and give out oxygen. Great health-giving properties, and beautiful too!

This Swiss cheese plant stands approximately 700cm tall and has extra large leaves. The plant is actually a type of vine of the genus Monstera. It originates from Central America.It is actually, therefore, a climbing plant which produces long brown aerial roots which it uses to hold onto trees. It is these that it uses to climb against.

  • The stem of this house plant is comparatively weak as it uses the supporting tree as its strength.
  • When it is young, Monstera does not have cut, divided leaves. These develop as the plant matures.
  • This house plant requires moderate levels of light. Keep out of direct sunlight.
  • It is also known as Mexican Breadfuirt and Window Leaf.
  • It likes a humid atmosphere and although it can cope with dry air, the leaves will be larger and more impressive if humidity is high.
  • Avoid draughts.
  • Feed about twice per month during the growing season. Water about once per week but do not allow this plant to stand in water for too long.
