Have you heard of a Saskatoon? It's sometimes called 'the new blueberry'. The fruit of the charming shrub, Amelanchier alnifolia 'Smoky', looks and tastes rather like a sweet blueberry, with the added bonus of marzipan-flavoured seeds. Some people say that the fruit also tastes like a cherry, or maybe an almond. It can be used in jams, desserts and smoothies.
