Gymnocarpium dryopteris 'Plumosum'is commonly known as the oak fern. This is a low-growing, spreading, deciduous fern with triangular, 3-pinnate fronds. It is a north American native byt is hardy here in the UK.

  • Fronds are light to yellow-green when young, turning dark green with age.
  • Has a spreading habit and grows to a height of up to 45 cms.
  • Likes moist, rich, woodland soil.
  • Keep in shade or semi-shade.
  • Not invasive, but forms a gentle mounding spread of up to 100cms.
  • Currently growing in a 13cm pot.
  • Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
