Ficus microcarpa is often known as the ginseng Ficus and it makes an excellent subject for bonsai treatment. The plant can be kept small and responds well to having its roots trained in addition to pruning in order to achieve an attractive bonsai shape. Also known as the 'Pot bellied Ficus' because of its unusual stocky roots which are elevated above the soil to create what appears to be a trunk.

  • Native to Malaysia, Taiwan and other Asian countries.
  • This evergreen house plant has been shaped as a bonsai tree.
