Ficus microcarpa is also known as Ficus ginseng.  It is also called the 'Pot bellied Ficus' because of its unusual stocky roots which are elevated above the soil to create what appears to be a trunk. Other names include the Taiwan Ficus, Banyan fig or Indian laurel.

  • Native to Malaysia, Taiwan and other Asian countries.
  • This evergreen house plant has been shaped as a bonsai tree.
  • It makes an ideal house plant and can be placed outdoors in a shaded position during summer.
  • Has a pot-bellied trunk
  • Probably the easiest bonsai tree to grow.
  • Never allow the soil to dry out.
  • Do not let this plant sit in water, however.
  • Re-pot in mid summer, when the tree has outgrown its container.
  • Pinch back and trim the new growth in order to keep this tree as a bonsai. Never remove all the new growth.
  • 1 young plant sold in a 12cm pot.
  • Height approximately 30cm including container.
