euphorbia tetra

Euphorbia tetra is an architectural succulent which can be treated in a similar way to a cactus. This plant is a large, branching specimen which currently stands at about 55cm tall, including the pot.

The Euphorbia genus is one of the largest in the plant kingdom and it contains more than 3000 species! The succulent members of the family originate from dry regions of Africa, Madagascar and India, also Arabia.

  • These plants need free-draining compost with drainage provided by gravel, pumice or similar which can be added to the potting mix. Cactus compost can also be used.
  • Relatively simple to care for.
  • Water regularly during the growing season but never allow the plant to stand in water. Drain away the excess as this can contain accumulated salts.
  • The stems of this house plant store water and it will begin to rot if kept too wet. Allow the plant to dry out between waterings.
  • Give it only a very little water in winter.
  • Likes high light levels but not direct sunlight.
  • The plant is growing in a 17cm pot.
  • PLEASE NOTE: These are living, growing plants and they might vary in shape considerably from the photograph.
