Echinocactus grusonii var. brevispinus is a popular cactus which produces a spherical globe in the early growth. This changes to a barrel shape gradually as it matures.

  • The stem of this cactus is pale green and heavily grooved with many areoles sprouting outward short corky golden spines.
  • The plant name 'brevispinus' comes from the Latin word for shorter spines.
  • It differs from the Golden Barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) by its short spines.
  • Will eventually reach a height of up to 90cm in both height and spread.
  • Flowers are produced from the end of spring to summer on larger, mature specimens which receive ample sunshine. The flowers form a circular ring at the top of the plant.
  • Superb specimen plant growing in a 23cm pot. Height including container is approximately 30cm
