Cedrus libani is the magnificent cedar tree that is generally called the cedar of Lebanon. It grows into a large, wide-spreading tree. This interesting, evergreen tree has innumerable scriptural and historical associations.

  • The needle-shaped leaves are green or greyish-green.
  • Barrel-shaped cones are purple-green then brown.
  • These trees are monoecious which means the male and female reproductive organs are on the same plant.
  • Female cones are green, turning to purple-grey and finally brown when mature. Male cones are small and greyish-green when but lengthen and turn brown when mature. They release pollen into the air.
  • Performs best in full sun in medium moisture, well-drained soils.
  • Tolerant of hot and humid summers.
  • Drought tolerant once established.
  • Ultimate height can be 35m with a similar spread.
