aeschynanthus twister

This is an unusual house plant which looks great in a hanging basket. Aeschynanthus ‘Twister’ is also known as the ‘lipstick’ plant because of its scarlet red flowers that look rather like lipsticks, especialy when they first appear. The foliage is curling and it cascades from the pot, making an ideal plant for a shelf or hanging basket.

  • Aeschynanthus 'Twister' has a compact growth and doubly curled, fleshy foliage
  • These plants originate from the rainforest and therefore they like high humidity and indirect light rather than direct sun.
  • Water regularly, using rainwater or filtered water rather than tap water.
  • Do not allow it to sit in water as this can lead to root rot.
  • If given enough heat (it likes night-time heat as well as day-time), it will eventually produce red tufts of flowers at the end of the stems.
  • The flowers unfold in groups of 8 to 12 on the same piece of foliage, making a good visual impact.
  • Use Aeschynanthus ‘Twister’ in a hanging basket or in a tall vase where the foliage can spread and flow downwards.
  • The trailing stems can eventually reach up to 60cm long.
  • These particular plants have trailing stems that are typically 40-50cm
  • Comes in a hanging pot that is 15cm in diameter.
  • Please note that the plant in the photo is not the actual plant you will receive, every plant is different!
